Year 1 Creative Computing Curriculum

The projects cover: augmented reality, digital animations, digital books, programming, digital literacy, game design, movie making, and digital art. Covers all Information Technology, Computer Science and Digital Literacy skills. With strong links to spoken language, other areas of the curriculum and writing throughout.

Magical Storytelling (iPad & Web Tools)

  • The pupils will design and create an interactive digital picture book to share with others
  • The digital book can be based on any being enjoyed in class or the example provided can be used
  • WAGOLLs are included for each activity (images, videos and graphics). These can be used to demonstrate high standards for the pupils to work towards and beyond and used by teachers to model what a great piece of work might look like
  • The pupils will retell the story visually (images and sounds) and create animations with voice-overs
  • Incorporates Digital Literacy and Information Technology skills
  • Images for the project are included

Wanted Dragon! (iPad & Web Tools)

  • The pupils will be amazed as they bring a dragon to life using augmented reality. They will create slides for a presentation which includes: a wanted posters, a news broadcast, what dragons mean to different cultures, created their own dragon hoax images and news headlines, design a trap to capture a dragon, draw dragon silhouettes, create word art and code a dragon to fly!
  • WAGOLLs are included for each activity (slides, images, information about dragons, videos clips, key vocabulary and trigger images). These can be used to demonstrate high standards for the pupils to work towards and beyond and used by teachers to model what a great piece of work might look like
  • Incorporates Digital Literacy, Information Technology and Computer Science skills
  • Includes images that can be used throughout the project

Puzzling Times (iPad & Web Tools)

  • Contains a ‘Puzzling Times’ Knowledge Organiser that outlines the essential knowledge that the teachers will be covering in this project. The aim that everyone knows exactly what is being taught, and what the children need to learn
  • The KO links to an accompanying online quiz that contains true/false, multiple choice, checkboxes and short answers. Once complete the marks are released and the quiz can be taken time and time again
  • The pupils will plan and design a digital puzzle game on any theme for others to play (in the style of Candy Crush!)
  • WAGOLLs are included for each activity (digital books, videos, graphics and descriptions). These can be used to demonstrate high standards for the pupils to work towards and beyond and used by teachers to model what a great piece of work might look like
  • A digital activity that looks at keeping healthy when using technology
  • The project involves creating an invitation for other pupils to attend a ‘games fair’, a digital poster, ‘Top Trump’ cards based on their game design and collating their ideas into a digital ‘Game Design’ book.
  • Included in the project are template design sheets for characters, background, blockers and power-ups
  • Incorporates Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy skills

Me and My Selfie (iPad & Web Tools)

  • The exciting digital art project involves the pupils capturing photos and adding cool digital effects to their images
  • WAGOLLs are included for each activity (graphics, videos, images). These can be used to demonstrate high standards for the pupils to work towards and beyond and used by teachers to model what a great piece of work might look like
  • The pupils will be adding special filters and effects in many different styles, creating galleries, making presentations and creating word art
  • Design and create their own Avatar, create a graphic that demonstrates information that is personal to them and investigates the human body.
  • Incorporates Digital Literacy and Information Technology skills

Wacky Inventions (iPad Only)

  • This extremely engaging project uses problem-solving and logical thinking skills to solve invention puzzles.
  • It includes the use of multimedia tools, making sound recordings, designing posters & inventions
  • Cross-curricular links to spoken language and writing outcomes
  • Each of the creative activities comes with example outcomes for each
  • The project includes a printable instruction writing template
